This is
also called a windshield washer pump. It’s designed to spray washer fluid onto the windshield. This will allow you to spray
a cleaner (washer fluid) on your windshield when it’s dirty.
When you press the button or lever, normally on your steering column, it will energize this washer pump that runs off your battery spraying cleaner all over your windshield and at the same time it will start your windshield wipers and have them run for about 4 or 5 times, then they turn off. This process should do a pretty good job of getting everything cleaned off.
