Shocks

Shocks When you are driving down the road and hit a bump, the shocks or struts on your vehicle take the majority of that force so that you don’t feel it much. Without these it would sure make for a rough ride.

These shock absorbers actually absorb and dissipate the energy entering your vehicle from the rough road. This sort of cushions your vehicle as you drive.

There are several different types of these shock absorbers. Some of them use hydraulic fluid, some use air (pneumatic), and some even use electromagnets. These shocks are used in combination with either a coil spring or leaf spring. Torsion bars are normally also used.

The hydraulic cylinder style shocks for example have a 50/50 shock return to keep the vehicle from bouncing up and down. This will have a special oil in it such that when the shock compresses a valve will open letting the compression move in the most efficient way to give you a smooth ride. You can buy shocks that are returnable in a ratio of 40/60 or 50/50 or 60/40, it depends on the application.
