This is sometimes
called a fuel tank, or a diesel tank (if the vehicle runs on diesel). This is a holding cell for the fuel in your vehicle.
Some of the newer vehicles use alternative fuels, which require a different type of fuel tank normally called a fuel
cell. An example of this is the LPG (liquid petroleum gas) and LNG (liquid natural gas).
On most modern vehicles the gas tank also holds the fuel pump. Some gas tanks also hold the regulator, the return system, and the vent system.
This is all tied into your emission system. So you can’t just take any car or truck and put whatever fuel tank you want in there, it needs to be the correct one for your vehicle. The specifications need to be right per your vehicles manufacturer.
These fuel tanks need to be replaced if they are leaking or damaged. You can get a new one that is actually better than the factory-installed version.
