CV Shafts

CV Shaft This is sometimes called a CV Joint. The CV stands for Constant Velocity. These CV joints are attached to the drive shaft. These CV joints and axles move around whenever you turn the steering wheel and hit bumps, as the suspension has to move around. It also handles the torque going to the wheels. It is used in front wheel drive vehicles and some of the newer model rear-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles such as the Ford Explorer.

The CV joint is protected by a rubber or plastic boot and holds in grease that the joint itself uses. Sometimes these will rip and you will see grease sprayed around the area of the boot on the bottom side of the vehicle. When this happens, dirt, debris, and moisture will get in to joint and cause it to fail.

It’s important to keep an eye on these boots and check them out every time you change the oil in your engine.

If you notice a damaged boot early enough you can simply replace that damaged boot and put in new grease for the joint. These boots do not require any maintenance and should last a very long time.

A popping or clicking noise when you are turning is a good indication that you may have a CV joint problem.

When you notice any of these damaged parts, you need to replace them. Here at Clickonautoparts.com we stock many of these CV shafts and boots and can have them on a truck from a warehouse near you sometimes the same day that you order it. We’ve made the process very easy and our goal is to provide you the best customer service to make Clickonautoparts.com your number one online auto parts store.
