Air filters are extremely important because they block various particles that can do harm to your engine. Also many cars now have cabin air filters that will help eliminate airborne pollutants from the interior cabin part of your vehicle.

You should check your owner’s manual to see how often you should check or replace these. But as a good rule of thumb, you should replace the air filter every 12,000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first.

This debris could cause damage to the internal part of your engine. All internal combustion engines have air filters. These engine air filters are normally held in a black plastic case around the center top of the engine. Some vehicles have these to one side but still at the top where it’s fairly easy to get to. Some have metal buckles that hold the case together and all you have to do us release those buckles with your hand. Then you should be able to open up this case and get to the air filter. Take out the filter and look it over for dirt, rips, etc… You can sometimes blow these off with compressed air, but quite often it’s best to just replace it.
